The Outside Organisation founder Alan Edwards named Number 1 Entertainment PR for a record 7th consecutive time

Alan Edwards, the founder of public relations firm The Outside Organisation has been named the Number 1 Entertainment PR by industry bible PR Week for an unprecedented 7th time – a record. 

Edwards who, with his company Outside, has worked across five decades, and represented some of the most iconic music and entertainment stars on the planet - including David Bowie (for 40 years), Prince, Blondie, Amy Winehouse, Bon Jovi, Spice Girls, Naomi Campbell, Led Zeppelin, The Who and Rolling Stones. 

The current roster also includes superstars shaping the present and future of music such as Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Headie One and Nick Cave. Autumn 2020 saw Outside promote three Number 1 UK albums in a row for Headie One, Ariana Grande and AC/DC.

Edwards and The Outside Organisation have a long history of working for charities such as Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust and Fashion For Relief. They also count London Stock Exchange listed companies as clients and handle many live events such as the prestigious BST Hyde Park and All Points East. 

Edwards said, “This has obviously been one of the most challenging years for everybody, so it’s doubly satisfying to receive this recognition.  We took the decision to get on the front foot and if anything, work even harder in 2020/2021.  When I started out, I couldn’t have imagined ever receiving an award for PR in my wildest dreams. It was just something I loved doing”.

Alan, began working in PR for industry legend Keith Altham in 1974. He has certainly had some wild moments in entertainment including overseeing a David Bowie gig on the runway at LAX airport; masterminding the publicity around the almost royal Posh & Becks wedding and travelling the world with the Stones when they were really rolling!  He says, “It’s a bit less rock and roll now but just as challenging and exciting!”
