The Money Trench – The Music Industry Podcast with Mark Sutherland (‘TMT’), is celebrating its first anniversary with the release of its 50th episode and the announcement of two new headline sponsors: SoundOn, the all-in-one music promotion and distribution platform from TikTok, and Tixel, the honest fan-to-fan ticket exchange. PPL -inaugural sponsor of the podcast- will continue to support the popular “Stat of the Week” segment.
Curated by renowned music journalist Mark Sutherland and executive producer Mike Walsh, The Money Trench has quickly established itself as a leading weekly podcast and newsletter, offering deep insights into the UK and global music industries.
Commenting on the anniversary and the new sponsors, host Mark Sutherland said: “When we launched The Money Trench a year ago, our goal was to create a platform for real, in-depth conversations with the executives and artists shaping the future of the business. One year and 50 episodes later, we are proud to see that so many people chose to make us part of their music biz week and grateful for the support from PPL, and now SoundOn and Tixel. We have big plans for the future, including new formats and live events, and we can’t wait to cover the next big moves in the most exciting industry on earth.”
Nichal Sethi, Head of SoundOn EMEA, said: “At SoundOn, we are passionate about empowering artists to distribute their music on their own terms, while reaching new audiences through TikTok and beyond. We share The Money Trench’s goal of creating a more open and connected music industry, and to support artists at every stage of their career.”
Adam Maestro, Head of Commercial at Tixel UK/EU, said: “As part of our mission to create a fairer and more transparent live music industry, we recognise the importance of having access to authoritative sources of information and fostering wide discussions about the challenges that are affecting the industry. Partnering with The Money Trench helps support those conversations that move the industry forward.”
Since its debut, the podcast has featured conversations with some of the most influential figures in the business, including Jamie Oborne (Dirty Hit), Lorna Clarke (BBC), Darcus Beese (Darco Artist Partnerships), Jo Twist (BPI), Charisse Beaumont (Black Lives In Music), Daniel Glass (Glassnote), Kate Nash, Tony Harlow (Warner Music UK), Johan Lagerlöf (Pophouse Entertainment), Roberto Neri (Ivors Academy), Peter Leathem OBE (PPL), Tom Kiehl (UK Music), Steve Homer (AEG Presents), Shabs Jobanputra (Relentless Records), Kim Frankiewicz (Concord Music Publishing) and Craig Jennings (Raw Power Management).
The accompanying Monday newsletter has grown to 7,500 subscribers, evidence of the appetite for thoughtful, in-depth content that goes beyond the headlines to explore the people, ideas and forces shaping the future of music. The weekly New Music Tips -included in the newsletter- have also given early exposure to successful rising artists such as Alessi Rose, Sunday (1994), Cliffords, Bea And Her Business, Luvcat, Chloe Qisha, Florence Road, Maruja, Fiona Lee and The Molotovs.
Executive producer, Mike Walsh, added: “Music is one of the ultimate people industries, and our focus from the start has been on hearing the opinions and stories of some of the most interesting and influential people in the modern music business. The trust and enthusiasm of our guests, listeners and readers has been the reason we have grown so rapidly, and we look forward to continuing TMT’s growth with our new partners, SoundOn and Tixel. We will also continue to help spread the word about the great work of Earth/Percent, the music industry’s climate foundation, co-founded by Brian Eno.”
As part of the growth of the community surrounding the podcast and the newsletter, The Money Trench will launch two new community initiatives in the second half of 2025:
- The TMT Summer Social: a networking drinks event in central London on 24 July, in partnership with Tixel. Details about location and how to register coming soon.
- TMT Tuesdays: a new monthly showcase for emerging talent in partnership with legendary indie label Fierce Panda, launching on 19th August at The Victoria in Dalston.
