The FAC announces a new series of flagship 'Artist:Entrepreneur Day' events
15 September 2021 - Press release
The FAC announces a new series of their flagship educational event, The Artist:Entrepreneur Day, starting with an online event on Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, featuring Artist Entrepreneurs Benny Bizzie, Sharon O'Neill (Sister Ghost) and Sherika Sherard.
Artist Entrepreneur Days are artist-led events that provide important information and practical advice to help early-stage artists, as well as those wishing to learn more, build and sustain a long-term career around their music. The day is broken down into four segments: Copyright, building your fanbase, returning to live and building your team. Each segment starts with CMU's Chris Cooke giving a comprehensive overview of the topic and is followed by an artist-led panel, in which experienced and inspirational artist entrepreneurs turn the theory into practice. Segments conclude with a discussion between the artists and industry experts across the relevant fields. Attendees should leave with a solid understanding of all the different revenue streams available to artists.
About the event, FAC Board Director and Community Lead Roxanne de Bastion says:
"The music industry is ever-changing and can be difficult for artists and creators to navigate, even where they are experienced and established within the industry. It's so crucial for artists to learn how all the different revenue streams and aspects of the industry work in practice in order to take full control of their careers. The artist entrepreneurs provide in depth information about their businesses and are generous in sharing their expertise and experience - I learn something new myself every time"
Event partner Chris Cooke of CMU says:
"As a frontline artist, to build a career around your music you need to think like an entrepreneur. And that means having a basic understanding of how the business of music works. With the Artist:Entrepreneur Day, we not only run through all those basics, but our host artists also explain how they've applied all that knowledge to their personal artist businesses, making it much easier to understand how to put the theory into practice. Everyone leaves the day a bit more clued up and with a practical to do list ready to work through"
Artist: Entrepreneur Days are free to attend (with the exception of the Folk Expo edition) and are generously supported by The Arts Council, PPL and Folk Expo.
