Terry Hall presents HOME SESSIONS - Final line-up revealed for major four day festival of live music, DJ sets, film and spoken word

  Coventry City of Culture Trust announces the second wave of acts and film screenings for Terry Hall Home Sessions, a unique four-day festival curated by Terry Hall with Creative Producer Suzanne Bisset. Staged in iconic city centre locations, Home Sessions runs from Thursday 29 July to Sunday 1 August 2021. Following the latest Government advice on Covid, an extra 10,000 tickets will be released across the festival.

Home Sessions will see Terry Hall inviting some of the incredible artists he has collaborated with over the years, his heroes and heroines, to come and jam together in his hometown.

The second acts announced for the specially curated festival include hip hop rapper Whitey; internationally renowned DJ LAU.RA; Riding the Low featuring Paddy Considine; singer-songwriter John Grant; rock band Fat White Family; The Charlatans’ frontman Tim Burgess; singer-songwriter and guitarist Jane Weaver; and DJ and musician Don Letts along with DJs Radda Dakka and Jazzie B. 

 

Bill Drummond, co-founder of late 1980s avant-garde pop group The KLF, presents a screening of 'Best Before Death', a documentary portrait of Bill Drummond’s 12 year World Art Tour by Paul Duane with Oscar-nominated cinematographer Robbie Ryan.  Following the Screening, he will perform his play ‘White Saviour Complex’ with Tam Dean Burn.

 

Artists previously announced in the first wave include Terry Hall, The Libertines, Roni Size, Daddy G (Massive Attack), The Lightning Seeds, UNKLE and Alabama 3.

 

Coventry City of Culture Trust today also announced that it would be increasing the capacity of all venues in line with the lessening of Government restrictions, putting an extra 10,000 tickets on sale including for previously announced and sold out gigs.

To make this event as safe and comfortable as possible, venues will continue to operate on a reduced capacity, and in addition to the non-socially distanced audience spaces, a limited socially distanced area will be provided on a first-come-first-serve basis within each venue.

A special competition, Home Grown, will see local talent, with a focus on underrepresented groups, selected in the lead up to Home Sessions take to the stage as support acts to the internationally-known headliners. The judging panel comprises Terry Hall and his creative producer Suzanne Bisset, singer/songwriter Peter Doherty, Strap Originals producer Jai Stanley, Letitia George, presenter of BBC CWR and Sarah Morgan, director, Tin Music & Arts.

 

As well as the iconic twin venues of Coventry Cathedral Ruins, destroyed in the Blitz during WWII and the new Cathedral, a mid-century masterpiece next door, the festival will also take over the brand new HMV Empire, a brand-new state-of-the-art gig venue located nearby in Hertford Street.   

Chenine Bhathena says: “Home sessions will offer the public a chance to see the very best mix of diverse and eclectic bands and musicians, performing live in a range of intimate and iconic spaces in Coventry this summer.

Supporting the headliners, The Home Grown showcase is an important opportunity and platform for our local talent to showcase their music and perform on stage with A-list artists in intimate venues, and forms part of our commitment to supporting emerging and representative talent across our programme.

Coventry City of Culture Trust is committed to PRS Foundation’s Keychange pledge, which strives for gender equality in the music sector. Due to the challenges of programming artists for festivals during a pandemic, and the extreme pressures this has placed right across our sector, we have found it challenging to reach 50/50 in our line-up for this event so far. We continue to work to address this and reach this balance, including through our Home Sessions programme giving female acts headline spots and supporting emerging talent.

We are so pleased that in line with government guidelines we are able to increase the capacity of a number of our concerts, and it’s fitting that a music city like Coventry will host one of the first major music festivals to take place after restrictions are lessened this summer.

As our live music sector continues to reopen, we are pleased to be able to increase the capacity of our venues, while also maintaining provisions for people who need or would prefer a socially-distanced viewing experience.”
