Tap Music Publishing signs Yaeji

TaP Music Publishing proudly welcomes Yaeji as their newest signing.

“Kathy is a most holistic of artists whose music and art transcends genres and cultures.” says Chris Woo Head of A&R at TaP. “We feel privileged that she’s chosen to call TaP her publishing home and are beyond excited to be working as a team with her, her management and her label XL Recordings over the next course of her career to evolve and expand on an already impressive catalogue of work.”

Yaeji states: "I'm excited to be working with TaP to expand my passion for producing and song writing for other artists and to make music for video games, film, and TV."

Brandon Sánchez of RVNG Intl. and Jordan Alper (Yaeji’s Management) said: "TaP’s a fantastic home for Yaeji, we couldn’t be more excited to continue supporting her singular production, song writing and art practice with their support.”

Ben Mawson CEO of Tap Music: “From the inception of TaP Music Publishing, with our signings of Larry Heard and Robert Owens, our desire was to champion underground electronic music alongside the pop writer/artist roster, so Yaeji’s signing is a real landmark moment for us. We’ll all huge fans of her artist project and really believe in her potential writing for and with others.”

Although born in Flushing, Queens in the summer of 1993, Yaeji’s roots are scattered between Seoul, Atlanta, and Long Island. Having lived in Korea, New York City, Atlanta and Japan – she moved back to the states in 2011 to study fine arts at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she broadcast her very first DJ sets at WRCT, the university’s radio station. The prospect of making music didn’t cross her mind until she joined WRCT; she’s inspired by both the Korean indie rock and electronica that she listened to as a teenager in Seoul and late ’90s and early 2000s hip hop and R&B. Yaeji’s production work to date includes remixes for Dua Lipa, Charli XCX and Robyn.

WHAT WE DREW 우리가 그려왔던 is Yaeji’s first full-length release on XL Recordings, is entirely self-produced, but she’s careful to classify it as a mixtape, which belies the way that these songs came together. “Each track is almost like a snippet of my life, a look into my diary or something, where it’s reflective of how I was specifically feeling during that time.”
