Sony/ATV strengthens European digital and international business affairs team

Moses Martiny and Jenny Lambert promoted, Mika Partanen joins team

Sony/ATV Music Publishing has strengthened its market-leading European Digital and International Business Affairs team in a move that is designed to enable it to work more closely with its international affiliates and with digital service providers for the benefit of the company’s songwriters.

The changes include a new addition to the London-based team of Moses Martiny, Jenny Lambert and David Stimson who all report to Antony Bebawi, Sony/ATV’s EVP Digital and Society Relations International and UK.

Jenny Lambert (who also reports to President, International Guy Henderson) is promoted from Director to VP, Digital & Business Affairs International.

Reflecting the greater international focus of his role, Moses Martiny is promoted from VP Digital, Europe to VP Digital, International and UK. This is supported by the appointment of Mika Partanen to the newly-created position of Director, Digital Business Development. Partanen reports to Martiny.

These changes come at a time when digital revenues continue to become increasingly critical to Sony/ATV and its writers, driven by the rapidly-growing streaming market. They will allow the company’s European Digital and International Business Affairs team to work even more closely with Guy Henderson’s International team and Guy Moot’s UK team, while supporting the company’s offices and affiliates outside of the Americas.

Antony Bebawi said: “We will now be better placed to share best practices with and learn more from our affiliates outside of Europe about each of their territories. As digital exploitation becomes increasingly important to our writers we want to ensure that we continue to strengthen our partnerships with the global digital services without forgetting the importance and diversity of national markets.

“One of our key strengths as a publisher is the fact that we have dedicated teams on the ground who have a deep understanding of their markets. This includes how their local services differ, how their national collection societies operate and the regulatory context within which music licensing functions. Bringing all of this together will enable us to deliver even better results for our songwriters.”

Moses Martiny joined Sony/ATV in 2015 as VP Digital, Europe to further develop Sony/ATV’s relationship with digital service providers as they roll out new digital music products and services. He is responsible for key digital negotiations for a range of pan-European services. Martiny was previously at UK collection society PRS for Music, which he joined in 2013 as Head of Business Development. This followed him occupying the global role of Director, Digital Business Development at EMI Music and then the Parlophone Label Group where he handled strategic and global distribution deals with leading digital music services.

Jenny Lambert has developed a deep knowledge of the publishing business having started her career as a copyright assistant at CBS/SBK Songs before joining the then newly-created Sony Music Publishing in 1990 initially as Copyright Manager and then as Administration Director. While at Sony Publishing she began studying law and continued her studies when she subsequently took up a role with EMI Music Publishing. After a short break from the publishing industry while she completed her training she rejoined EMI Music Publishing as European Business Affairs Manager in 2010, transferring to Sony/ATV following the acquisition of EMI. She was promoted to Director, Digital & Business Affairs International in 2014.

Mika Partanen joins Sony/ATV after four years at PRS for Music in London where he was Senior Business Development Manager. In this position he led the research and analysis in the Live Concert Tariff review for the UK’s live music sector and for which the Copyright Tribunal recently approved new rates. He also worked on a PRS review to streamline and consolidate more than 40 public performance tariffs, while being part of an extensive strategy review of UK mechanical royalty collection society MCPS. Before PRS, he worked as a management consultant at a London-based boutique consultancy.
