Sonopress launches ecorecord.org
20 January 2026 - Press releaseNew platform consolidates information on sustainable record production around EcoRecord
Sonopress, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of physical media, has launched ecorecord.org, a new platform dedicated to sustainable record production. The website expands the company’s existing sustainability approach, EcoRecord, and for the first time makes information, data, and context available in a central, publicly accessible format.
As the record market continues to grow, questions around material use, energy consumption, and production processes are gaining importance. At the same time, requirements for transparency and comparability across the entire value chain are increasing. ecorecord.org addresses these developments and provides structured context.
The platform is based, among other sources, on recent studies such as the Murmur Report 2025 by the Music Climate Pact and the Vinyl Alliance. According to the report, the average product carbon footprint of a conventional record made from virgin PVC is approximately 0.93 kilograms of CO2 per record. The data also shows that reductions of more than 40 percent are possible through alternative materials and optimized production processes.
“As one of the leading manufacturers, we see it as our responsibility not only to implement sustainability, but also to make it transparent and comprehensible,” says Jörg Pollmeyer, Head of Sales at Sonopress. “With ecorecord.org, we are creating additional transparency and making developments around EcoRecord centrally accessible.”
The platform brings together product information, studies, and background knowledge on sustainable record production at Sonopress and will be continuously expanded. Sonopress positions ecorecord.org as an information resource for labels, artists, and partners.
