Continuing Sound City’s long-standing relationship with CAPLL Ltd and Arts Council England in shaping and providing opportunities to inspire the future of culture in the UK, the size? Artist Training And Development Programme Powered By CAPLL brings together an impressive array of mentors, masterclasses, professional insights and much more to help tool artists with an understanding of the different layers and sectors involved with being a creative in the music industry in 2022 and beyond.
After first launching in its current form in 2021, the programme acts as a vital support-line for artists based in the North West, with last year’s cohort including the likes of Tilly Louise, Medley, Recky Reckz, Fauna, Ask Elliot, Half Long Poem, Evie Moran, Fiona Lennon, Remée, Jane Lacey and SKIA. It acts as a continuation of an exciting time for the North West music scene, with a vibrant scene that continues to see exciting new artists and bands emerge into primetime festival billings, major label record deals and sold-out shows across the UK and Europe. Now more than ever, that emerging array of talent is ready to embrace incredible new opportunities - and the size? Artist Training And Development Programme Powered By CAPLL is designed to nurture these exciting new voices to sit in the best possible position for the careers ahead of them.
Following last year’s programme which included speakers such as Shell Zenner (Amazing Radio/BBC Introducing), Dwayne Young (Sony Music Publishing & Vanguard Music Group), Karima Kingsley (Sound Engineer & Tour Manager - Wet Leg/Jorja Smith) and Estella Adeyeri (Big Joanie), the 2022 programme promises to expand and develop on the incredible successes and launchpad that 2021’s programme provided from a range of figures within different sectors of the music industry, including Dan Jones (PRS) and Jennifer John (Vocal Coach Composer & Music Mentor) alongside many more. Across the 12 months the 12 successful applicants will gain insights and education around recording/releasing their music, tour management, funding management, marketing, PR, personal development, brand awareness/growth and much more. Combining regular studies, practical opportunities and an assigned expert mentor to bring to life their vision and guide them through the intricacies and knowledge needed to build a successful career in the music industry - it’s the full 360 degree package supporting the future of the music landscape.

All of the young participants, who are emerging artists, were fully engaged, very responsive and motivated. Stepping into a physical setting this year, the famed Liverpool Arts Bar is set to act as the hub for artists involved in the programme to utilise Peer 2 Peer meetings in a greater capacity - offering a more connected and personable programme into 2022. Speaking about their involvement, the Liverpool Arts Bar said: “As a venue we loved having the size? Artist Training And Development Programme artists with us every month. It’s a great programme to be a part of! As a grassroots venue we are overwhelmed with the amount of creative talent that has come out of the programme so far, especially under tough circumstances and we can’t wait to welcome next year’s cohort.”
