PRS for Music partners with The BRIT School to support craft of songwriting and talent pipeline

The BRIT School is thrilled that PRS for Music, a world-leading music collective management organisation representing the rights of more than 175,000 talented songwriters, composers and music publishers around the globe, is partnering with The School’s renowned music department to inspire the next generation of songwriters, composers and producers. The partnership will enable The BRIT School to remain free to all performing and creative arts students, as the two organisations work together to develop and nurture the talented individuals who enrol at The School.
The collaboration launches this week (Tuesday 7 May 2024) with PRS for Music supporting Chroma, two nights of original music created by The BRIT School’s Year 12 Music students at Stanley Arts in South Norwood, one of South London's premiere arts and performance venue. Sharing new musical works with an audience is one of the key elements of the course. Students also develop their understanding of the role and craft of a songwriter, are taught the importance of collaborating with fellow musicians and experience the creative process - from original inspiration to finished piece. As part of the programme, PRS for Music team will participate in a series of talks, sharing their professional expertise and knowledge of the music industry.
The partnership will build on The BRIT School’s longstanding history of encouraging students to be creative and dream big; its talented alumni include international stars including Grammy Award winner Adele, Libera Award winners Black Midi, MOBO award winner FKA Twigs, Sunday Times best-seller Kae Tempest, six-time BRIT Award winner Raye, to Ivor Novello Award winners The Feeling and MTV Europe Music Awards winner The Kooks.
For 33 years, the School has put careers at the centre of its mission with almost 100% of students transitioning into paid opportunities in employment, education or training within three months of graduating. Between them, its former students have achieved great things, including 250m+ record sales, billions of streams, 36 Top Ten albums, 91 Top 40 singles (including seven Number Ones); 21 BRIT Awards, 19 Grammys, two Oscars and two BAFTAS.
