Bob Geldof accepted a special honorary award from Official Charts on the release of an album featuring 8 UK Number 1 hit singles and 8 No 2s.

A total of 17 artists produced Top 10 singles that appear on the Original Cast Recording from Just For One Day - the Live Aid Musical, which is out on Friday 11th July, two days before the iconic concerts’ 40th anniversary.

The vital work of the Band Aid Trust, created in response to the famine in Ethiopia, continues and Live Aid is still raising money in the form of 10% of proceeds from Just For One Day - The Live Aid Musical.

The Official Charts Company’s Official Top 10 Award celebrates artists achieving chart success and this special award recognises the achievements of the Live Aid artists who contributed songs to the musical.

The artists whose Top 10 songs feature on the album are The Boomtown Rats, David Bowie, Elton John, Madonna, Mick Jagger (duet with David Bowie on Martha Reeves and the Vandellas’ ‘Dancing In The Street’), Phil Collins, Queen, Simple Minds, Status Quo (for their version of John Fogerty’s ‘Rockin’ All Over The World’), The Beatles, The Cars, The Police, The Style Council, The Who, Ultravox and Wham!.

Live Aid’s Bob Geldof received the award in recognition of the album. With The Boomtown Rats he achieved five Top 10 singles, including two Number 1s.

Bob Geldof said: “These are some of the greatest songs in the rock canon. It is extraordinary to think that these and dozens more were performed live by the greatest artists of the age.

“The Rats’ ‘I Don’t Like Mondays, played at Live Aid to over a billion people, took on a whole strange and different meaning. But, then again, it was a strange, exhilarating day that had a sense of something ‘other’ about it all.

“Now, ‘I Dont Like Mondays’ is re-imagined for a smaller stage for Just For One Day - The Live Aid Musical and, along with the other tunes, brilliantly rearranged for 2025 - but with the same intensity. So if you weren’t there perhaps you get a ‘sense’ of that time.

“All of these were massive chart songs then. They got all the awards and trophies, and hearing them revitalised and afresh of course they are being honoured once again. The great tunes never stop being sung.”

Live Aid co-organiser Midge Ure said: “By the time we got to Live Aid, Ultravox had enjoyed hits including ‘Vienna’ and ‘Dancing With Tears In My Eyes’ - both of which feature in Just For One Day - The Live Aid Musical. The adaptations of these songs, as well as other artists’ classic tracks, are superb. The show tells the Live Aid story but it is also just a thrilling night out with amazing music.”

The number of hit makers would be even greater if you were to include all the artists who featured on ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’ and ‘We Are The World’. The cast recording also features songs, which did not hit the UK Top 10, by Bob Dylan, Diana Ross and The Kinks/The Pretenders - all of whom have enjoyed incredible chart success at other songs during their long careers.

Rather than being a recreation of Live Aid, Just For One Day uses the music to tell the story of how this legendary gig came together and became an iconic moment in late 20th century history.

Just For One Day - The Live Aid Musical (Original Cast Recording) - out on July 11 - is a fully realised rock record, available to preorder now, with songs by artists including Queen, David Bowie, Ultravox, Boomtown Rats, U2, Elton John, The Police, The Who, Madonna, Phil Collins, Bob Dylan and more.

The record was announced on 1st May, 2025 by Bob Geldof, Midge Ure, Harvey Goldsmith and John Kennedy as they gathered at Wembley Stadium nearly 40 years after the groundbreaking concert. It is a love letter to the ‘80s – a time of bold anthems, raw emotion, and an unshakable belief in music’s power to change the world. This is not only a reworking of these legendary tracks, it’s a celebration of their lasting impact, recorded in the same spaces as many of the original iconic songs.

The album, produced by Olivier nominated arranger Matthew Brind and Jon Bath, and engineered by Grammy-nominated Jeremy Murphy, boasts a modern, expansive sound while staying true to the energy and emotion of the originals.

The show continues its celebrated run at London’s Shaftesbury Theatre and will mark the 40th anniversary of Live Aid on 13 July 2025 with a special gala performance and afterparty at KOKO, Camden. Limited tickets are available with a generous additional contribution to the Band Aid Charitable Trust. For more information on this, and all other performances, click HERE.

Producer Jamie Wilson said: “From the outset, our aim with Just For One Day was to capture the spirit of unity and the transformative power of music that defined Live Aid. The cast album is a testament to that vision, bringing together timeless songs and heartfelt performances that resonate across generations. It's more than just a recording; it's a celebration of a moment when the world came together through music.”

10% of all ticket sales for Just For One Day - The Live Aid Musical will go directly to the Band Aid Charitable Trust to continue their vital work, to date the musical has raised over £850,000.
