NTIA Applauds PRS Foundation's New Fund Supporting Early Career Promoters and Commitment to Grassroots Ecosystem

Press Comment from Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association, on the launch of the Early Career Promoter Fund by the PRS Foundation, supported by the DCMS and Arts Council England:

“We welcome the introduction of the Early Career Promoter Fund as a crucial step in recognising the profound impact of the night time economy. This initiative signifies a dedicated effort to cultivate and empower the next wave of music promoters, pivotal players in shaping our cultural milieu.”

“Independent promoters serve as the backbone of our nocturnal economy, fostering artistic talent, cultivating communities, and propelling innovation across our musical landscapes. This fund acknowledges their indispensable role and extends vital resources to bolster their endeavours.”

“Through the provision of grants and capacity-building assistance, the Early Career Promoter Fund not only invests in individuals but also fortifies the grassroots music ecosystem at large. It empowers emerging promoters to broaden their horizons, champion diverse artists and genres, and connect with audiences at local, regional, and national levels.”

“Furthermore, the fund’s commitment to addressing underrepresentation is laudable. Ensuring equitable support reaches a spectrum of promoters and encouraging them to champion diversity in their programming is paramount for fostering a dynamic and inclusive music sector.”

“We urge all eligible promoters to seize this opportunity and apply for support. Together, we can cultivate a more robust and resilient grassroots movement within the cultural landscape, enriching our communities and nurturing the talents of tomorrow.”

PRS Foundation Press Statement  – the award-winning charitable funder of new music and talent development - announces today a new initiative targeted to early career music promoters in England and supported by Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

The new and ambitious Early Career Promoter Fund recognises the vital role independent promoters play in supporting the talent pipeline across England and within the nighttime economy, and offers grant funding and capacity building support, with the aim of bolstering the grassroots music ecosystems.

Grants of up to £3,500 will be available to support a range of activity, including:

The new fund aims to help emerging promoters to do what they do best – book and promote shows to develop scenes, support artists and DJs and to reach and engage audiences locally, regionally, and nationally, and build sustainable careers in the grassroots music sector. Those receiving support will be able to step up to book and promote talent at a scale beyond their current level, and build their capacity, skills and networks.

Managed by PRS Foundation and funded by Arts Council England using Supporting Grassroots Music funding from DCMS, the Early Career Promoter Fund will also help to address underrepresentation, ensuring support reaches a diverse range of promoters, and proactively encouraging grantees to support a diverse range of artists and music genres nationwide.

Promoters can apply for Early Career Promoter Fund support from PRS Foundation’s website.  Full eligibility criteria and funding guidance will be available soon and the application portal will open on Thursday 2nd May 2024.

The first deadline for the submission of applications will be 6:00pm, Thursday 13th June, 2024. Subsequent monthly deadlines will be listed on PRS Foundation’s website. All funding decisions will be delivered within 6-8 weeks of each deadline, and selected grantees will be invited to attend cohort induction meetings and a series of workshops delivered by PRS Foundation and associates.
