Notting Hill Music Signs Scottish Songwriter Declan Welsh
27 November 2025 - Press releaseNotting Hill Music is proud to announce the signing of acclaimed Scottish songwriter Declan Welsh (Declan Welsh and The Decadent West). Emerging from East Kilbride, Scotland, Welsh has established himself as one of the nation’s most compelling contemporary voices, earning praise for his electric live performances and songwriting that is as emotionally resonant as it is incisive.
With The Decadent West, Welsh has built a formidable catalogue that has attracted widespread critical acclaim. ‘Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold’, the band’s debut album, earned a place on the Scottish Album of the Year Award shortlist, while their follow-up releases - including EPs and a second full-length album - solidified their status as one of Scotland’s most vital modern acts. Their live reputation has taken them to sold-out rooms across Europe and major festivals including TRNSMT, Glastonbury, and Reeperbahn.
Welsh’s intelligent, socially aware writing has resonated deeply with international audiences, resulting in more than 16 million total streams, including 4.5 million on their breakout track Absurd. The band has been championed by major platforms including BBC Radio 1 - where they earned an Introducing Track of the Week - and prominent playlists such as New Music Friday UK and throughout Europe and South America.
‘Hardly News’, from the second album ‘2’, was recently featured in the 2025 Universal Pictures film ‘Drop’, further expanding the band’s cultural footprint. In the live arena, their stature continues to grow: they most recently headlined Glasgow’s Tenement Trail Festival at the legendary Barrowland Ballroom, marking their second time topping the bill at the iconic venue following their own sold-out headline show in 2022.
Welsh’s recent single, ‘Feeble’- featuring Helicon and Al Lover - marks a powerful final standalone release before the build-up to the band’s highly anticipated third LP. Produced by Tony Doogan (Mogwai,Belle and Sebastian, Jesus and Mary Chain), Feeble showcases a bold sonic evolution while preserving the potent lyricism and punk-charged energy that have earned the band fans around the world.
Quote from Declan Welsh:
“I’m delighted to be able to sign with Notting Hill, and to start releasing and writing as much music as is humanly possible. I’m utterly obsessed with writing songs and being in the studio; and think I’ve gotten pretty good at it. I can’t wait to get to work, and look forward to the opportunities this will open up in co-writing, sync and more!”
Quote from Billy Kiltie, Notting Hill Music:
“We’re delighted to be signing Declan Welsh to Notting Hill. I’ve been following Declan’s career for a while now and have always deeply admired his songwriting and the energy of his live performances, including just last week at our Resonate Music Conference. We’re all looking forward to new music in 2026 and assisting Declan as he grows even more in his career.”
