New BPI Insight Session 50 series to kick off with Abbey Road Studios event that will explore the Future of Recorded Music

• The first of three events, The Future of Recorded Music takes place at Abbey Radio Studios on 19 April – confirmed guests include Academy Award and BAFTA winning film composer Steven Price;

• Sofie Hvitved of the Copenhagen Institute of Future Studies to give keynotes across the series; 

• Looking ahead to the next 50 years of innovation in music, while marking five decades of the BPI.

 

The BPI, the representative voice for the UK’s world leading record labels and music companies, today announces its BPI Insight Session 50 series – looking ahead to the next 50 years of innovation in music, while also marking five decades of the BPI and its mission to promote British music.

The series will be made up of three events across the year and is an extension of the BPI’s successful Insight Sessions, which have been running since 2014 and explore the intersection of music, technology, popular culture and social trends and the resulting implications for the music industry and its consumers.

The BPI Insight Session 50 series has taken “the next 50 years” as its theme, and will look to celebrate today’s diverse, innovative and progressive UK music industry.  As a central element, the BPI has commissioned the highly respected futurologist Sofie Hvitved of the Copenhagen Institute of Future Studies, to present keynote addresses for each of the three planned events, tailored toward different topics, technologies and opportunities for the UK record industry.

The BPI is delighted to announce that the first event in the BPI Insight Session 50 series will take place from 2.00pm on Wednesday, 19 April at Abbey Road Studios in the iconic Studio Two.  Titled The Future of…. Recorded Music, the event in association with BPI audio partner Bowers & Wilkins, which also has a longstanding relationship with the legendary studios, will explore the intersection between new technological innovations and recorded music, focusing specifically on where, how and why people listen to recorded music, and what the future might hold for rightsholders and creatives.  

Guest speakers confirmed so far include Andy Kerr (Bowers & Wilkins), Karim Fanous(Abbey Road Red), Rasika D’Souza (Futuresource), Sofie Hvitved  (Copenhagen Institute of Future Studies), and Steven Price (Academy Award and BAFTA winning film composer), with more names to be confirmed in due course.
