Apple Music today announced charting singer-songwriter Natanael Cano as the latest addition to its Up Next program, Apple Music's monthly artist initiative geared towards identifying, showcasing and elevating rising talent.

The 19-year-old música Mexicana artist has defined the 21st century corridos tumbados movement, coining the term that has become characterized by artists adding hip-hop beats, production traits, rapping, and other urbano trappings to Mexico's 150-year-old folk song tradition. After receiving his first guitar at the age of 11 as a gift from his father, he soon began writing his own original songs and releasing them online. His smash YouTube singles, "El De Los Lentes Gucci," "El F1," and "El Drip," garnered tens of millions of views and landed Cano on Apple Music's Corridos al Cien playlist, where he caught the attention of fellow Up Next artist Bad Bunny with his "Soy el Diablo" track. This led to the pair's 2019 hit collaboration on the remix single "Soy el Diablo" and put Cano on the map. To date, Cano has over 300+ million lifetime plays across Apple Music since first debuting on the platform last year. He is currently the #1 solo Regional Mexican artist on Apple Music, has been Shazamed in over 170 countries and continues to rewrite the record books as he forges his own path leading the corridos tumbados movement, blending genres and rising in popularity worldwide.

"I am super thankful to all the people at Apple Music for giving me this opportunity to be their Up Next artist," said Cano. "This motivates me to continue to release even more music for all my fans."

"Nata is a genuine talent and he's pure heart....something that is often missing in the music industry today," said Bad Bunny. "He represents the new era of música Mexicana"

"Natanael Cano is a young visionary who deserves everything good that's happening with his career right now," said Apple Music host El Guru. "When everybody was doing the same, he created a new sound with corridos tumbados. He has the future in his hands with his unique talent, and because of that, he is our first Mexican Up Next artist on Apple Music."

In his Up Next film out today, Cano talks about his decision to leave Sonora for Los Angeles and his claim over the signature corridos tumbados sound. "All of my music is different," Cano tells Apple Music. "I wanted my sound to sound like Mexico, Mexico. This doesn't sound like Puerto Rico or this doesn't sound like the U.S. This sounds like Mexico."

Additional Up Next campaign moments include a Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance on October 5 and a FaceTime interview with Apple Music's El Guru also airing today, where he discusses his highly-anticipated new album, what it means to be part of "La Clika," and his thoughts on being the first Up Next artist representing Mexico.
