LONDON, 08 JANUARY 2012: MTV International today revealed the winners of the 2011 MTV Video Play Awards, recognising the most played videos across MTV channels around the world*.

Girls have come out on top with Jessie J, Adele, Katy Perry and Jenifer Lopez all picking up Double Platinum Awards, and Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Rihanna each scoring a hat trick of Platinum Awards. David Guetta has become the first ever winner of four MTV Video Play Awards in one year, taking home Platinum Awards for “Who’s that chick” [feat. Rihanna], “Without You” [Feat. Usher], “Where Them Girls At” [feat. Flo Rida and Nicki Minaj] and “Sweat” [Snoop Dogg vs David Guetta], racking up an impressive count of over 45,000 video plays in 2011. Bruno Mars followed closely behind with over 40,000 video plays, becoming the first ever act to win two Double Platinum Awards for “Grenade” and “The Lazy Song”.

The top music videos were aired over 765,000 times across 60 international MTV channels (excluding all MTV US channels) in 2011. Eight videos earned Double Platinum Awards this year – the most ever in the history of the awards – with over 20,000 plays each. A staggering 35 videos garnered Platinum Awards with more than 10,000 plays each, and 14 further videos earned Gold status for 5,000 or more plays.

Bruce Gillmer, Executive Vice President Music and Talent/Programming, Events, Viacom International Media Networks commented: “The MTV Video Play Awards are a perfect example of MTV’s unrivalled scale, support and ability to connect artists to literally millions of fans in every corner of the world.”

The MTV Video Play Awards emphasise MTV’s commitment to supporting new acts, championing up and coming artists and launching them around the world. 6 of this year’s winners have been an MTV Push artist, MTV’s global campaign that promotes the hottest new talent to audiences around the world across all MTV platforms. The PUSH artists who won awards are LMFAO, Jessie J, Foster The People, Alexis Jordan, Bruno Mars and Jason Derulo. Winners also included acts who have given some of the best live performances at MTV events in 2011, including Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Jessie J, Bruno Mars and Jason Derulo who all took to the stage with their jaw-dropping performances in Belfast at the 2011 MTV EMA, and LMFAO and Snoop Dogg who lit up Malta at Isle of MTV, Malta Special in June last year.

About the MTV Video Play Awards
The innovative awards were launched in 2007 to celebrate the most played music videos across the global MTV network. To create the awards, 60 MTV music channels from four continents provided data on their most played Music Videos from the period 1 January – 31st December 2011. Those videos played over 5,000 times received a Gold Award, those played over 10,000 times received a Platinum Award and 20,000 plays resulted in a Double Platinum Award.
