Meta's Dan Simpson Named Chair of the Board Of DDEX

DDEX, the international standards-setting organization dedicated to improving the exchange of data and information across the music industry, announced today that Dan Simpson, Head of Music Operations at Meta, has been elected Chair of its Board. Dan Simpson has been a part of DDEX for many years, and an Executive Board member since 2024. During his time as a member of DDEX, Dan has been an integral part of the Digital Sales Reporting (DSR) Working Group, the Electronic Release Notification (ERN) Working Group and more recently has been the Board Sponsor for the Anomaly Reporting Working Group which has focused on standards for the sharing of data amongst business partners about potential streaming fraud. Simpson will succeed Kim Beauchamp, Executive Vice President Strategic Business Transformation & Operations at Universal Music Group.

“With today’s technological advancements, new types of content, consumer connectivity, and their continued evolution, the mission of DDEX and its efforts to keep data flowing has never been more important,” said Simpson. “I’m incredibly honoured the DDEX Board has chosen me to lead its efforts and I’m looking forward to representing them for the next two years.”

Dan Simpson has over 20 years of experience in Music Operations with stints at Sony Music, SoundCloud, and most recently, Meta, where he has spent the last seven years as the Head of Music Operations. At Meta, Simpson leads the global team that runs the systems, processes and operational partnerships with music distributors that ensure the world’s catalogue of recorded music is available for use on Meta’s family of applications including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and more. In addition to leading Music Operations at Meta, Dan represents Meta on the DDEX Board.

As Dan Simpson succeeds outgoing Chair Kim Beauchamp, DDEX wishes to thank Kim for her unwavering dedication during her tenure the last four years, and her continued, vigorous support for DDEX.

The DDEX board is comprised of executives from the 21 Charter members: Amazon, Apple, ASCAP, BMAT Music Innovators, BMI, Downtown Music Holdings, GEMA, Google, Kobalt Music, Meta, Pandora, PPL, PRS for Music, SCPP, SACEM, SOCAN, Sony Music Entertainment, SoundExchange, Spotify, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group.

Membership to DDEX is open to any organization with a business interest in digital media content; there are currently over 150 members worldwide. While a company does not need to become a member to implement any of the DDEX standards, being a member of DDEX provides the opportunity to participate in and influence the development of international standards in the digital value chain. Information about membership of DDEX is available at https://ddex.net/membership/.
