Releases highly anticipated new song ‘I Wish For The Rain’

Today, British-Brazilian artist Liana Flores is proud to announce that she is now signed to the iconic Verve Records (The Velvet Underground, Astrud Gilberto Kurt Vile, Arooj Aftab). Fiction Records (The Cure, Tame Impala, Billie Marten) have partnered with Verve to handle Liana’s releases for the UK.

To mark the occasion Liana has released new track “I wish for the rain” an evocative cut that draws inspiration from the Great American Songbook. Her style finds a musical kinship with the jazz-pop revivalism of artists like Laufey – who she supported on her European tour in 2022 – while sharing the depth and craftsmanship of iconic songwriters like Vashti Bunyan, Nick Drake and João Gilberto.

Elaborating on “I wish for the rain”, produced and mixed by Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom Devendra Banhart, Natalia Lafourcade), Liana says, “the song arose from a walk home one night in the height of summer; it was a time of heartbreak and I couldn't help but think of how welcoming a little rain can be for rumination. IWFTR is the torch song of my upcoming record, dramatic but gentle and a little aloof.”
 
Growing up in small-town South Norfolk Liana found a love for making music by picking out familiar melodies on an electric keyboard, discovering a knack for playing by ear. Her obsession with bossa nova in her late teens led to her picking up the guitar. She began to combine her widespread musical influences with imaginative lyricism, drawing from nature, fantasy and personal tales. The result led to her song “rises the moon” which reached a huge audience online and led to her signing to Verve & partnering with Fiction.

Liana has previously supported Laufey and Matt Maltese but has now recently announced a full tour of her own, her first time touring with a live band. She is set to play select shows in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, as well as UK shows in Manchester.
