Killabop: new label launched by UK music exec Nav Sidhu, signs worldwide deal with Virgin Music Group

Killabop is an exciting new label venture from Hopeless Records UK executive Nav Sidhu. The label will primarily focus on signing UK alternative-rock artists and developing them across the globe via an exclusive worldwide distribution deal with Virgin Music Group. The partnership unites Virgin Music Group with Nav Sidhu, who has a long-standing reputation as UK label manager at Hopeless Records. Sidhu has worked with some of the biggest alternative artists from Avenged Sevenfold to All Time Low and Neck Deep, developing them into gold/silver certified artists in the UK.

At its core, Killabop will be artist-focused, specialising in flexible deals, and being nimble within an ever-changing industry. Speaking on how the partnership with VMG came about, Sidhu muses: “A chance encounter with Nick Roden (President of Europe, VMG) and Bonita McKinney (Head of Business Development Europe, VMG) at The Great Escape was the start of a real conversation. It turned out both Nick and Bonita are real fans of the work I’m doing with Hopeless Records in the UK. I was looking for a partner to make Killabop a reality, so it felt like the stars aligned. They work with some great alternative labels  and they share my vision of investing in British alternative music, meaning they’re the perfect partners for Killabop.”

He continues on the motivations and ideals behind Killabop: “I've looked up to so many great US alternative labels as a fan growing up but my goal is to put UK alternative music on the global map and find the next big artists in the UK who can inspire an alternative movement. I hope we can represent a diverse roster and make that the "norm" by letting the music and style do all the talking for everyone to see. Our hope is that artists themselves will enjoy working alongside our core team. Without the artists there's no label so I hope we can build careers that last.”

“We’re all very excited to support a new home for UK Alternative artists, particularly one with Nav at the helm,” said Bonita McKinney, Virgin Music Group.
