Indy Label Market at Coal Drops Yard on 13th July



Independent Label Market recently announced Coal Drops Yard, London's newest shopping destination, in King’s Cross as the new location for their flagship London events.

With less than two weeks to go to the ILM Summer 19 event and there’s plenty to look forward to - ILM will be hosting a stage for the first time, courtesy of Plaza Pastor, featuring the vanguard of London’s emerging talent with Leatherhead, Tiña and Alan Power playing live plus DJ Sets from ILM favourites throughout the day including Ace Records, Black Beacon Sound, Castles In Space, Fire Records, Heavenly Records, Mukatsuku, The Leaf Label, WONDERFULSOUND. For those who are keen to continue the fun into the evening, there will be after parties at Spiritland and their new sister venture SUPERMAX, the area’s hottest subterranean cocktail bar. Summer ‘19 Market exclusives
ILM are delighted to announce that Fierce Panda will be bringing brand new Coldplay 7” test pressings on the day, available exclusively at Independent Label Market. The white labels are from the reissued ‘Brothers & Sisters’ EP that Fierce Panda are releasing onto two limited edition pink and blue 7” singles the day before the market. Jane Weaver will be dropping in from 2pm for signings of her latest album ‘Loops In The Secret Society’ on the Fire Records stand, similarly DJ Yoda and Skinshape will be at the Lewis stand in support of their latest albums. They will be joined by the illustrator of Yoda’s album Ben Connors who will be hand drawing one off LP sleeves for the record buying public on the day. Heavenly will be presenting their Heavenly 'Disco Singles' - a limited run of hand stamped vinyl placed in Heavenly house bags. Featuring killer tracks from their current roster, re-worked and remixed by special guest DJs including Andrew Weatherall, Ashley Beedle,Gabe Gurnsey (Factory Floor) and Andy Votel. Marathon Artists come stocked with Courtney Barnett limited edition coloured vinyls and signed CDs, singles and test pressings from the likes of POND, Max Jury, Courtney Barnett, Tiny Ruins and Childhood whilst PIAS present a host of limited editions by Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, John Grant, Let’s Eat Grandma and more from the PIAS vaults. Campus Records will showcase paintings by visual artists Bob and Roberta Smith who are currently showing at the Royal Academy (with their debut album due in September on Campus). 

This year’s label line up includes !K7, BBC, Bella Union, Big Dada, Brainfeeder, Dirty Hit, Domino, Erased Tapes, Fire, Heavenly, Infectious, Marathon, Matador, Ninja Tune, Play It Again Sam and Strut.

Coal Drops Yard
On the former site of Bagley’s, London’s biggest rave venue for two decades, and now counting independent record store Honest Jon’s Record Shop and Spiritland, a café, bar, studio and home of the world class living voice soundsystem, amongst its residents Coal Drops Yard is a playground for fashion, music, culture and the arts.

Live Performances and DJ Sets
Independent Label Market will also hosting a stage for the first time, courtesy of Plaza Pastor, featuring the vanguard of London’s emerging talent playing live through the afternoon.  There will be janky rhythms and soaring saxophone from Leatherhead, Tiña - a supergroup-of-sorts, made up of members of Bat-Bike, Uncle Tesco, Pet Grotesque and Goat Girl, and country, folk twisted with abstract post punk by Alan Power.

ILM Summer ‘19 Partnerships
AIM partnership
ILM’s longstanding UK partner AIM will be hosting several ‘Regional Champion’ stalls, featuring labels from Leeds, Northern Ireland and other music hubs around the UK.

London Brewers’ Market 

ILM’s other main partner is London Brewers’ Market will be representing some of London’s finest independent breweries. Market-goers can meet the brewers behind their favourite beers and enjoy a refreshing pilsner or pale ale in the beer garden. 

Love Brother 

ILM partner with Love Brother for the first time, a new community for men's mental health. Founded by Bob Jones and Deano Jo, two experienced heads from the creative and cultural industries, their goal is to create a more relevant and accessible voice for men in need. They will be present at the Independent Label Market to listen, share and learn from all the fantastic people attending the festival, from label heads, to artists and fans.

Music Declares Emergency partnership

ILM will be one of the very first events for Music Declares Emergency, a new organisation that supports the aims of Extinction Rebellion. It is bringing together music industry professionals and organisations, including indie labels; big and small, who are demanding the immediate cultural change and policy response necessary to protect life from climate and ecological emergency.  Music Declares Emergency will have a stand on the day where they will talk with labels, artists and fans about why they are declaring emergency.  

Soho Radio residency from 8th July

ILM will be warming up with a week of activity and a pop-up shop as part of AIM’s  ‘Jäger Soho Label Lodge’ 12 week residency at Soho Radio.  In the week leading up to the market event a different label will take over each day and host artist and label radio shows, live performances.The line up is as follows:

Mon 8th July - PIAS

Tues 9th July - Phases  feat. artists - Alex Kozobolis, Patrick Jonsson and Erland Cooper

Weds 10th July - Partisan

Thurs 11th July - Heavenly

Fri 12th July - Lex feat. artists Andrew Hung and Lex DJs

This week will also feature two exciting ’straight to vinyl’ sessions with ALASKALASKA (Marathon) and Rina Mushonga (PIAS), recording live sessions directly to disc using Soho Radio’s portable cutting lathe.

ILM is also supported by Discogs, who are “committed to the support & development of independent labels that showcase raw talent.”

Since launching in London in May 2011,Independent Label Market has brought together the founders of some of the world's greatest independent record labels in London, across the UK and in Paris, Berlin, Brooklyn, Bari, Barcelona, Rome, LA, Hamburg and Toronto to sell their fresh vinyl produce directly to the public at that traditional goods exchange – a market stall. 

2018 highlights 2018 was a stand-out year for Independent Label Market, with a new market event launched in Copenhagen, and larger events taking place in Paris, Barcelona and Brussels. ILM went back to it's roots with a one-off return to Berwick Street, Soho with an All-Female Takeover, and were a big feature at the 2018 BBC Introducing Live, a weekend of inspiring masterclasses, interactive sessions, workshops and some very special live performances at Tobacco Dock.
