IFPI Global Charts - BPI quote on success of UK artists

“It’s great to see UK artists do so well in the IFPI global charts, particularly dominating the songs of 2022, with Harry Styles and Glass Animals at No.1 and No.2 and nearly half the top 20 claimed by UK talent.  Our congratulations to Harry Styles – featuring so strongly in the global charts – and to all UK artists and their labels for an excellent performance last year.

“But while we are encouraged by the UK’s success, we can’t ignore the rising number of artists from growth markets such as Latin America and Asia who are increasingly making their mark in the hyper competitive global music market.  If we want to retain our hard-earned position, it’s vital that UK record labels can continue to invest in and promote new talent, and that we secure an ambitious partnership with Government to support UK music to export and thrive on the global stage.”
