Guillermo Gonzalez appointed President of Warner Music Iberia

He succeeds Charlie Sanchez who stands down after 13 years

Guillermo Gonzalez has been named as President of Warner Music Iberia.  Gonzalez’s appointment is effective immediately and he will report to Iñigo Zabala, President, Warner Music Latin America and Iberia.

He succeeds José Carlos “Charlie” Sanchez who is stepping down, after spending 13 years in the role, so that he can independently undertake a range of music-related projects.

Warner Music Iberia is home to some of Spain and Portugal’s biggest artists including Beret, Bunbury, Carminho, Love of Lesbian, Fito y Fitipaldis, Mariza, Pablo Alborán, Rosana and Vanessa Martín.

Guillermo Gonzalez says: “I’m happy to be taking this position at such an exciting time for our industry. Charlie’s been a great mentor to me and I’m determined to build on our team’s success and help our artists reach new heights. Spain and Portugal both have dynamic, diverse music scenes, populated by passionate fans, and now more than ever, we’ve an opportunity to build global careers for our homegrown stars.”

Iñigo Zabala adds: “Guillermo is a hugely talented executive, with an instinctive understanding of artists’ creativity and an entrepreneurial approach to business. He was the natural choice to take over this important leadership role.

“I also want to thank Charlie for his years of service, during which he’s been the driving force behind our many successes across Iberia.  I wish him well in his next adventures.”

Charlie Sanchez concludes: “I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together at Warner Music Iberia.  We’ve nurtured the careers of performers from a wide range of genres and helped them create music that’s touched the hearts of millions.  I’ve no doubt Guillermo will grow this momentum and I wish him and the team all the best for the future.”

Gonzalez joined Warner Music Iberia back in 2008 as Business Development Director and played a crucial role in steering the company’s digital transition.  He subsequently became Marketing and Business Development Director, before being appointed General Manager in January 2019.

He joined the company after serving in a number of marketing and management roles at Toyota España.  Gonzalez, who started his career as songwriter in Fonomusic (a local Warner Music label) in the 1990s, holds a BA in History, Ancient History and Archaeology from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, a master in the Toyota Way from the Toyota Academy in Japan, and a postgraduate qualification in digital marketing from the OBS Business School.
