It's official! Just announced by Simon Mayo on his Drivetime show, Greatest Hits Radio listeners have once again voted Bohemian Rhapsody to be the greatest hit of the 70s, 80s and 90s. This is the seventh year in a row the track has taken number one spot in the station's annual countdown, which this year saw over 21,000 total song votes from listeners.
Queen's Brian May thanked all those who voted and assured them that the band still don't take the song's success for granted, saying: 'Thank you for voting Bohemian Rhapsody number one in your 500 top songs. It's not the first time it's happened, but we will never take this for granted, thank you. It's great to be there in the centre of the pulse of music so thank you for tuning in and thank you for staying with us.'
Band mate Roger Taylor agreed: 'We are continually amazed and delighted by the fact that people still seem to love our now very old song and we're just delighted that it's given a lot of pleasure to a lot of people over fifty years. We feel honoured and just continually thrilled, so thank you so much to anybody that voted it number one.'
This year's chart saw:
- 84 New Entries
- 205 songs climbing the chart
- 208 heading down
- 3 staying the same
