Ed Sheeran shows continue to break records - this time in Iceland12 August 2019 - Press release
1 in 7 of the total Icelandic population attended the shows
The two Ed Sheeran shows in Reykjavik, Iceland this weekend ((10th and 11th August) promoted by AEG Presents and Sena Live have become the country's biggest ever gigs with record sales. Close to 50,000 people attended the Laugardalsvöllur stadium performances.
Simon Jones, AEG Presents SVP Live Music International said, "Though the biggest tour in history is coming to an incredible crescendo, the records keep coming for Ed. These historic shows in Iceland were like nothing I have ever seen. They completely took over the country with Sheeran fever at its peak. It was absolutely a national event and the scale of the shows relative to the population was colossal. The biggest ever Icelandic shows in history."
Earlier this year AEG Presents promoted a series of Ed Sheeran shows in South Africa which proved to be the biggest in South African history. In addition AEG Presents promoted the biggest ever South East Asian tour across a single album campaign.
Ed Sheeran's Divide Tour was recently named the highest-grossing tour of all time. It has also been named the most attended tour of all time. When it concludes more than 8.5m people across 43 countries will have seen Ed perform.
Other highlights for AEG Presents in the past year include Hugh Jackman playing six nights at The O2 and selling 300,000 tickets across Europe and the Shawn Mendes arena tour. Coming up in the autumn is a major tour with Khalid.
