DAVID WOLTER NAMED EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF VIRGIN RECORDS

Highly regarded music executive returns to label home where he ascended to his first executive position in major step by CMG towards renewed focus of illustrious company

 
Highly regarded and respected music executive David Wolter has been named Executive Vice President of Virgin Records, it was announced today by Capitol Music Group (CMG) President Ashley Newton to whom Wolter reports.   In his new position - which marks the first major step by CMG in the rebuilding of its historic Virgin label and returns Wolter to the home where he achieved his first executive position -- he will sign and develop artists for Virgin, as well as oversee recording projects for new and established artists.  Wolter is based in Hollywood in CMG's iconic Capitol Tower.
 
According to Ashley Newton, "David's track record speaks to his impeccable taste and skills as an A&R executive. We've had a longstanding and close working relationship in the past, and I couldn't be happier that he is taking on such an important role at Virgin Records as we reimagine the label."    
 
David Wolter commented, "When Ashley Newton first brought me to Virgin almost 20 years ago, the label was creatively left of center and far ahead of the curve. Wolter comes to Capitol after nine years at RCA Records, most recently as Senior Vice President of A&R. Having been brought to that label in 2007 by Newton, Wolter worked closely with an array of artists that included Walk The Moon, Elle King, Bleachers, The Strokes, Cage The Elephant and Ray LaMontagne. Prior to joining RCA, Wolter was Vice President of A&R for Virgin Records, having also been recruited to that label by Newton, in 1997, and working some of the label's most successful artists, including Gorillaz, Katy Perry, 30 Seconds To Mars, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and many others.
Wolter began his career at Mercury Records in 1993, followed by a stint at Hollywood Records as in 1996.
