CD Baby Expands Service Offering and Simplifies Royalty Collection with CDB Boost

CD Baby, one of the world’s leading distributors, owned by Downtown Music Holdings, today unveils the latest in a series of artist-centric initiatives – CDB Boost.

Designed to meet the ever-evolving needs of independent songwriters, CDB Boost includes mechanical royalty collection via the Mechanical Licensing Collective (The MLC), non-interactive digital performance royalty collection via SoundExchange and inclusion in sync licensing catalog.

Established under the Music Modernization Act, The MLC began administering blanket mechanical licenses to digital service providers (DSPs) in 2021. With CDB Boost, CD Baby will register users' musical works with The MLC, collecting their digital audio mechanical royalties from eligible streaming and download services in the U.S. from The MLC on their behalf.

Extending beyond the collection of mechanical royalties, CDB Boost adds access to additional sync opportunities to those offered by CD Baby. These new offerings will be implemented alongside a partnership with SoundExchange, which currently collects and distributes digital performance royalties on behalf of more than 650,000 creators. Through CDB Boost, CD Baby will register sound recordings with SoundExchange, collecting royalties on users’ behalf.
