Bucks inks admin agreement for Gene catalogue

Bucks Music Group has signed an administration agreement with Gene for the band’s catalogue.

Consisting of Martin Rossiter, Steve Mason, Matt James and Kevin Miles, Gene rose to prominence in the mid-90s.

Their body of work spans four studio albums: Olympian (1995), Drawn To The Deep End (1997), Revelations (1999) and Libertine (2002). It includes 10 Top 40 UK hit singles including Olympian, For The Dead, and We Could Be Kings.

The entire catalogue is due to be reissued by Demon Records on July 24 as an eight LP Deluxe Edition, presented with original artwork and sleeve-notes from the band and Keith Cameron – the journalist who founded the Costermonger label alongside Roy Wilkinson to release the band.

Bucks’ Head of Sync Jonathan Tester said: “I first heard Gene when I visited a friend at University in 1995 and was played I Can’t Help Myself. I was immediately hooked and spent the train journey from Exeter to Haywards Heath with the EP on repeat. I’ve followed the band ever since. We are very excited to be working with these incredible songs and honoured that Matt, Martin, Kevin and Steve have allowed us to be the guardians of their creations. They’ve been so supportive of our ideas for bringing these songs to new audiences.”

Gene’s Matt James said: "I can't wait to start working with Bucks. I've felt for some time that our songs were perhaps fighting for air in a sizable vault. This material is still widely loved and it will be exciting to have some fresh ideas on the usage of it.”

Gene’s Martin Rossiter said: “Ten years of our creative juices congealed to make these sometimes flawed but always lovingly crafted songs. Time has taught me to look kindly on those young costermongers trying their luck.”
