The BPI, the association for the UK’s record companies and label businesses, today announces elections to fill two independent representative places on its Council. These are due to become vacant by rotation, and full independent members are invited to submit nominations by the deadline of 1pm on January 15th 2026.
BPI Council is the governing body of the BPI, supporting the association in setting and shaping its long-term strategies and key policy goals. It is made up of a breadth of representatives drawn from across the recorded music sector, including independent labels, Sony Music UK, Universal Music UK, and Warner Music UK. It additionally comprises the BPI Chair, BPI CEO, and the wider BPI Executive Team, as well as representation from PPL and number of non-executive and co-opted members.
Any representative of a full independent BPI member can be nominated for election by another independent member, although candidates must be willing to be put forward and to serve as a Council representative and director. Individual, as opposed to company, BPI members can nominate themselves. Nominations can be submitted via a form that has been shared with members.
Further to the completed form and a recent colour photo, nominees are each required to provide a short written statement (up to 200 words) setting out their reasons for standing and how they plan to contribute to Council. The deadline for nominations and supporting paperwork is 1pm on January 15th 2026.
The BPI team will then work with nominees to film a short hustings video to share with the membership, with online voting opening on 1pm on February 2nd 2026. The successful candidates will attend their first BPI Council meeting in March.
YolanDa Brown OBE DL, BPI Chair, said:
Our hundreds of independent label members reflect a breadth of music businesses, styles of music and are hugely important to the essential work we do in promoting British music. Taking half the places on the BPI Council, they play a key role in setting our priorities at this transformative time for our industry and keep us in tune with the evolving needs of our diverse membership. We value their crucial insights and innovative cultures and invite all those who are interested in helping to shape the future of the BPI to stand for election.”
