BBC Radio 6 Music announces Mitski's Artist in Residence series and Artist in Residence: AAA film for BBC iPlayer

Taking over as 6 Music's Artist in Residence today, presenting a series of eight shows, is American singer and songwriter, Mitski.

All episodes of Mitski's Artist in Residence series are available now on BBC Sounds here. They will also be broadcast on Monday 20th – Thursday 23rd and Monday 27th – Thursday 30th November (9pm-10pm) on 6 Music.

In addition, Mitski has recorded a 6 Music Artist in Residence: AAA special, which is available on BBC iPlayer here. Highlights can also be found on YouTube here.

Recorded at Maida Vale Studios, Mitski's Artist in Residence: AAA sees the artist and her producer, Patrick Hyland, provide intimate insight into their creative process. They talk viewers through the creation of and stories behind some of Mitski's best loved and new tracks: Heaven, Star, Washing Machine Heart and Should've Been Me.

6 Music has been a long term supporter of Mitski. Following early support from Iggy Pop on his 6 Music show in 2018, her tracks Heaven, My Love Mine All Mine, Bug Like An Angel and The Only Heartbreaker have all featured on the 6 Music playlist. She also presented a series of Lose Yourself With... shows for the network in late 2021 and early 2022.

Mitski is known for her albums including Lush (2012), Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013), Bury Me At Makeout Creek (2014), Puberty 2 (2016), Be the Cowboy (2018), and Laurel Hell (2022). She released her seventh studio album, The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, in September 2023, which was recorded at Bomb Shelter Studio in Nashville, Tennessee and Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, California. It became her highest-charting album in the UK and her first to hit the Top 5 in the UK albums chart.

6 Music's Artist In Residence is a journey into the musical soul of an artist, based around a theme or mood. Each episode finds the host playing records that have informed specific periods of their life. Previous presenters include: Angel Olsen, Arlo Parks, Loyle Carner, Johnny Marr, Manic Street Preachers, Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Wolf Alice.
