Bastille re-records ‘Can’t fight this feeling’ for the new John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners joint Christmas TV advert, ‘Excitable Edgar’

John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners have teamed with Globe - Universal Music UK’s creative agency - to line up Bastille’s re-recording of the classic REO Speedwagon song ‘Can’t Fight This Feeling’ as the sync to their new Christmas advert. In their first joint Christmas campaign, John Lewis & Partners and Waitrose & Partners have come together to create an advert which tells the heart-warming story of a little girl and her friendship with an excitable young dragon.

The soundtrack was produced and arranged by Mara Carlyle and Hugh Brunt, and performed by the London Contemporary Orchestra.

Globe, who have worked on the last five John Lewis campaigns, brought in Bastille to re-record the song chosen to soundtrack the ad, with typically impactful results.

Adam Gardiner, Head of Film & TV for Sync at Globe says, “Landing the most sought-after advertising sync for one of our artists is always a great way to end the year.”

Dan Smith, lead singer of the Virgin Records-signed alt-pop band, says, “It’s so great to be asked to be part of this year’s John Lewis Christmas ad. As a band we’ve always had a lot of fun putting a twist on classic songs, and it’s been so good to be a part of this orchestral version of an Eighties classic. We’re hoping we get an Edgar for Christmas too!

The ad will first air on television during ITV’s The X Factor: Celebrity on Saturday 16 November.
