Audiotool Launches Multiplayer Cloud DAW and Debuts Nexus, an Industry-First Platform for Building Music Production Tools
21 January 2026 - Press releaseAudiotool, the browser-based music production platform with more than 300,000 monthly active users, today announced the open beta launch of its redesigned Audiotool Studio, featuring NEXUS, an open developer platform and API that empowers creators and partners to build custom production tools that integrate seamlessly into Audiotool sessions.
NEXUS offers a new level of DAW Extensibility, enabling traditional desktop music applications and plugins to be brought into the cloud with minimal effort. The open platform also provides an unprecedented degree of API access to Audiotool’s audio engine, routing, and signal-processing capabilities, alongside MIDI, automation control, and plugin state management. This includes the ability for AI components to communicate with one another directly within the DAW—an industry first in music production software.
Developers can access virtually every part of Audiotool, enabling near-limitless expandability and depth within what is already one of the most powerful online DAWs on the market.
Key Advantages of NEXUS
-
Open API access: Developers, creators and music lovers have unlimited freedom to build custom tools for Audiotool
-
Technologically Advanced: Supports AI-assisted coding workflows and the first in the industry that allows multiple AI components tools to communicate in real time
-
Collaborative development: Developers and creators can work together in real time within the same session
-
Zero licensing fees: Free to build and easy to distribute NEXUS-based tools
Launch partner Spitfire Audio has integrated its LABS plugin platform directly into Audiotool via NEXUS, with Fraunhofer, DAACI, and BandM8 also participating. Beyond established software developers, independent creators can also leverage Nexus with popular LLM coding assistants such as Cursor to build custom instruments and workflows that can be shared with the community. As with all NEXUS integrations, these tools are multiplayer by design—allowing them to be collaboratively built and controlled by multiple users in real time.
“At Audiotool, we have a strong community of creators who are constantly looking for new ways to enhance their creativity and productivity, and partners eager to bring their instruments, effects and AI services to the platform. There’s a unique magic in creating music collaboratively, and we believe that same spirit applies to building the tools and workflows creators rely on. Now, with NEXUS the possibilities are endless,” said Andreas Jacobi, CEO and Co-Founder of Audiotool.
Audiotool’s open beta includes full developer documentation, SDKs, and example code. The company will also host its first remote hackathon, inviting the community to build innovative music tools using NEXUS.
