Applications open for the Richard Toeman Scholarship 2019

The Music Publishers Association (MPA) is delighted to announce that applications are now open for the Richard Toeman Scholarship (RTS) 2019.

Since 2006 RTS has been a vital part of the MPA’s educational and outreach initiatives, it fits alongside our current roster of training and professional development events, such as the MPA’s Induction Course and Intermediate Course and our newly created young music publishers group (YMPA).

The Scholarship is awarded to two outstanding candidates a year, one scholarship is awarded to someone with less than five years’ experience in music publishing and one final year student or recent graduate interested in working in music publishing

The scholarship winners will receive the below:

  • Free or discounted entry to MPA training and professional development courses
  • An Invitation to MPA socials and quizzes, including the MPA Summer Party
  • £500 towards further training and professional development
  • Business coaching provided by an Independent consultant
  • And many more benefits.

For the final year student or recent graduate, the scholarship will also provide support from the MPA in securing a relevant work placement during the course of the scholarship.

Full details of the scholarship are now available on the MPA website along with the nomination and selection process, with entries closing on Monday 29th April 2019. The two successful applicants will be announced at the MPA AGM in July 2019.

Paul Clements, MPA Group Chief Executive says “The MPA understands how important it is to nurture the next generation of music publishers. Now in its 13th year, RTS continues to support the development of newcomers with bright prospects to benefit our industry. Whether working at major international publishing companies or independent publishers, past awardees have gone on to lead successful and notable careers.’’

Tom Bladon, Grand Rights Licensing Administrator, Music Sales Group (RTS 2018 Student recipient) says “Receiving the RTS at the start of my career has given me the confidence, knowledge and platform to break into the Music Publishing world. I have taken part in numerous training, networking and social opportunities, all of which have been invaluable to me.

The MPA is a great organisation with a dedicated team who have helped me establish myself in the industry. I thoroughly recommend all students seeking guidance and experience in Music Publishing to apply to the MPA’s RTS 2019!”
