Amazon Music and Metropolis Studios announce new production studio, The Breakthrough Lab

AMAZON MUSIC “PRODUCER SESSIONS” TO BE LIVESTREAMED FROM THE NEW STUDIO WITH ARTISTS INCLUDING DISCLOSURE AND P MONEY & WHINEY

Amazon Music and Europe’s leading independent recording studio, Metropolis Studios, have today announced the launch of a new production studio alongside their existing state-of-the-art spatial audio facility which they collaborated on in 2021. Both will be made available to the song writing and emerging artist community to help them on their musical journey as part of the ongoing commitment to support developing talent.

The Breakthrough Lab has been designed to provide producers, songwriters and artists the ultimate creative playground to write, record and mix in. Whether making beats, tracking live, recording vocals or bunkering down for an intensive writing session, the multi-functional hub enables artists to cover every aspect of production to the highest degree.

Building on existing artist development programmes that Amazon Music offers including Ones to Watch, Breakthrough and the Step Up Fund, the new production studio will be available to rising talent as a unique environment to hone their skills, and produce exclusive content releases for Amazon Music. The space will also be used to host songwriters, providing opportunities for future stars to compose brand new music in a state-of-the-art facility.

The “Producer Sessions” live stream series, featuring renowned musicians and engineers, also kicked off on 9th August in The Breakthrough Lab, it’s new home, with electronic music duo Disclosure challenged to remix two iconic tracks, live to fans on the Amazon Music UK channel on Twitch in 90 mins. Future sessions include infamous grime legend P Money who joins forces with drum & bass innovator Whiney on 6th September with more to be announced soon.

The latest venture with Amazon Music and Metropolis Studios follows a successful content collaboration which saw the launch of its pioneering 11.2.8 spatial mix studio in its West London complex enabling artists to unlock the exciting potential of immersive audio. Serving as Amazon Music’s HQ for immersive mixing over the last two years, artists have included the likes of Major Lazer, Jack Savoretti, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Anne Marie, Olivia Dean, George Ezra, Chase & Status, The Wombats and countless others.

Laura Lukanz, Head of Music Industry, UK, Australia and New Zealand at Amazon Music said “At Amazon Music we are committed to supporting emerging artists, songwriters and producers and helping them on their musical journeys. The expansion of our partnership with Metropolis Studio will give them the opportunity to create music at one of the most prestigious studios in the world with state-of-the-art equipment with support from world class industry professionals.”

Gavin Newman, Partnerships Director at Metropolis Studios said “Producers and engineers work in a very different way from how they used to 30 years ago. It’s so important for us as a studio to cater to their changing needs and to nurture the next generation of trailblazers. Our ongoing work with Amazon Music really reflects these ideals, a combined commitment to technical innovation with music and music-makers firmly at the core.”
