ADAM BARKER APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS AFFAIRS, UNIVERSAL MUSIC UK
11 July 2011London, July 8th, 2011: Universal Music UK chairman and ceo David Joseph has promoted Adam Barker to Director of Business Affairs of Universal Music UK, reporting to him.
Barker, who last year was promoted to a new role as Senior Director working across Commercial Media Partnerships, Globe TV and Universal Music Strategic Marketing, was previously Director of Legal and Business Affairs for Mercury.
He brings broad experience to his new role, having joined Mercury in 2003 from Ministry of Sound where he had been Commercial Director for three years.
Barker was part of the senior management team at Mercury for seven years, making deals with artists including Razorlight, Chase & Status and Noah & The Whale as well as working with established acts such as Metallica, U2 and Sir Elton John.
David Joseph says: 'Adam is a smart, perceptive and experienced deal maker who clearly understands the new commercial opportunities for our artists and labels. I'm delighted he's accepted this position.'
Barker's promotion, which is effective August 1st, follows the retirement of Universal Music UK's Executive Vice-President Clive Fisher, who is stepping down from his full-time role after 33 years with the company. Fisher is planning a move to Colorado, but will continue as an advisor to Universal Music.
