Remote working with some in person meetings in the UK (mostly London, some in Manchester) with some international travel
Global music charity In Place of War is looking for an exceptional individual to join us as Music Industry Relations Manager. Contribute to the work of a dynamic, fast-moving international charity by tapping into your extensive network across the music industry and brokering new relationships, building on In Place of War’s own vast networks.
Th role will largely involve working remotely and under your own initiative, keeping a close track of your progress, but will be supported by our core team and CEO, along with our music industry trustees and Global Music Industry Advisory Board. You will be reporting directly to both the CEO and our Board of Trustees.
The Role
- Developing our music fundraising and commercial strategy across each year
- Managing & building our Global Music Industry Advisory Board (GAB)
- Fundraising - identifying opportunities, creating pitch decks & converting relationships into secured funding
- Overseeing our #HackMusic Catalyst Fund: Bringing together a small panel of expert judges from our GAB to assess applications for seed funding of new music projects from across our network of change-maker organisations in the Global South. Connecting the members of our GAB with the winning recipients who receive small grants, matching recipients with appropriate mentors & resourcing of new music spaces via our partner music manufacturers
- Overseeing our new Artist Advisory Board
- Supporting the CEO in the management of our Artist Fellowship & Ambassadors Programmes
- Initiating and overseeing our Fellowship and fundraising dinners, ensuring they bring in funding goals
- Presenting to potential funders
- Regular presentations and interactions with the GAB & Board of Trustees
- Copywriting for decks and presentations
- Pitching In Place of War’s Executive Leadership Programme to senior music industry execs
- Working with our core team on communications planning around key campaigns & activities
Looking across 2024, here are some of your headline responsibilities:
- The creation & execution of a fundraising strategy with achievable goals across a feasible timeline
- Hosting 4 Zoom meetings with our GAB, coordinating the inclusion of one of our change-makers & the input of our CEO
- Organising & production of a ticketed fundraiser to celebrate 20 years of In Place of War at a high profile venue featuring well-known artists & curating a guest list of relevant high net worth individuals from the music industry, wider entertainment industry and beyond
- Organising & production of one live electronic UK event at a high profile venue featuring well-known artists
- Working with a leading auction house to coordinate the sale of music-related donations
- Coordinating one international trip for our GAB members to visit one of our change-maker music projects in the Global South
Experience/Qualities Needed
- Over 10 years of music industry experience
- An expansive international network of strong music industry relationships in organisations with the available resources to support our work
- Excellent communication and relationship-building (& maintaining) skills
- Fundraising
- Experience of Live Event Production/Curation/Management
- Fantastic organisational skills - you’ll need to keep track of the conversations you’re having with your contacts, the progress you’re making and any questions/enquiries you receive
- To be a confident self-starter, happy to work on your own initiative, but with the understanding that you’re part of a supportive team who needs to keep us in touch with your progress in order that we can guide and support you. So, the ability to work remotely, manage own workload and report back to the team
- Killer Presentation Skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Loads of passion and energy with the tenacity of a legend
- Fluent written and spoken English
- A desire to contribute to an organisation using music as a tool for positive social change
- Availability to travel occasionally within the UK and abroad
About In Place of War
In Place Of War is a global music charity, registered in the UK and Ireland and as a 501c3 non-profit in the U.S. The organisation uses music as a tool for positive change in areas of conflict. Working with a network of more than 130 change-makers in grassroots arts organisations across the Global South, the charity brings hope, provides a voice to marginalised communities, and encourages people away from conflict via its music programmes in 26 countries.

Members of the advisory board include representatives from A0K1VERSE, Ableton, Apple Music, Bauer Media, Downtown Music Services, Google, Native Instruments, Resident Advisor, Roland, Spotify, and Yamaha Guitar.
