With a soulful slice of UK hip hop that features some smart and playful lyrics, south London trio Bakery Boys have already found favour at 1Xtra, where this has been Track Of The Week. Featuring a gorgeous vocal chorus exquisitely delivered by Locks Laser from The Thirst, it comes from their forthcoming mixtape Holla At A Baker, which is due in October. The lads have now played two consecutive years at London’s Wireless Festival, supported the likes of Big Sean and Labrinth, and they’ve previously had lots of love from the teams at Kiss Flava, AKA, Capital Xtra and MTV’s The Wrap Up and Base. They’re a creative bunch too, responsible for every aspect of their own output, from songwriting, visuals, artwork and production right since their 2011 debut Hustlin’ Behaviour. The father of Shack and Ace from the group used to be part of the legendary Soul II Soul, so the boys have a great pedigree. Slick, polished but with a knowing wink back to their fans who’ve been there since the start, this deserves a real shot at crossover success.
