Bye Bye Love

Artist: Purdy
Label: unsigned
Impact date: March 23
ROTD featured date: Tuesday 17 March 2015

We say

It was back in August 2014 that we last featured Purdy with her smooth track Next Time. She’s back and in a more playful mood on the surface of this up-tempo bluesy tune, it seems. Peel away the veneer, however, and you’ll quickly realise she’s telling her lover that it’s all over between them because of the inner demons that are making it impossible for them to be together. She began writing songs aged 11 and cites legends like Nina Simone and Peggy Lee along with less obvious names such as Sia and Portishead amongst her influences, but you really can hear them all evident in the mix when she sings. She’s on the bill for the Cheltenham Jazz Festival on May 3 and will finally release her debut album Diamond In The Dust around the same time with this and our previously-featured track both included. Amy Winehouse flung open the door for ladies with attitude to brazenly show us their jazz-loving roots, Paloma Faith followed and continues to shine and now it’s time for Purdy to step over the threshold.
