Radio 1 Ibiza 20



Calvin Harris, Disclosure, Rudimental, Duke Dumont, Faithless and Kolsch join the line-up for Radio 1's 20th anniversary in Ibiza

 

BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac has announced plans for Radio 1 Ibiza 20, taking place from 31 July - 2 August, marking 20 years of the station broadcasting shows and hosting events in Ibiza. As a part of the celebrations, Radio 1's Pete Tong, Annie Mac and Danny Howard will each host a scorching line-up of events across the dance fuelled weekend - broadcasting from Ushuaia Beach Hotel on Friday, the San Antonio sunset strip on Saturday and Ibiza Rocks on Sunday.

Annie Mac revealed details about the three massive events during her Friday night Radio 1 show (7-10pm), which will see the best dance acts, both new and established, on the line-up  including: Calvin HarrisDisclosureDuke DumontRudimentalFaithless and Kolsch.

The first event of the weekend, held at Ushuaia on Friday 31 July, broadcast live on Radio 1 from 6-11pm (UK time), will be hosted by Annie Mac and will feature sets from big name DJs Calvin Harris and Disclosure.

On Saturday 1 August, following his Dance Anthems show, Danny Howard will host a four hour event on San Antonio's sunset strip, broadcast live on Radio 1 from 6-10pm (UK time)  - featuring performances from Rudimental and Duke Dumont.

Pete Tong will host the final event of the weekend at Ibiza Rocks (Ibiza time) on Sunday 2 August, with a line-up including Faithless and Kolsch. The event will be broadcast live on Radio 1 from 7-11pm (UK time).

The full line up for Radio 1 Ibiza 20, and details of how dance music fans aged 18 or over can get tickets, will be revealed on Radio 1 next week.

Pete Tong said: "Globally Dance music is bigger than ever and the fact that Radio 1 has been at the forefront hosting events from Ibiza for the past 20 years is a massive landmark that I am hugely proud to be a part of. Radio 1 Ibiza 20 is going to be an amazing weekend of music and I can't wait to celebrate!"

Annie Mac said: "The Radio 1 weekend is still the absolute peak of the Summer in the White Isle and I feel very lucky to have witnessed raucous broadcasts at Cafe Mambo, Ibiza Rocks, Privilege and Space, and to have shared some unforgettable times with my Radio 1 family. This year is the biggest yet!"

Danny Howard said: "What an incredible honour it is to be involved in what is set to be one of the most significant events in the history of Radio 1's legendary weekend in Ibiza. I've gone from being a dedicated listener to an even more dedicated DJ and words can't describe how excited I am to work alongside Annie Mac, Pete Tong and the rest of the amazing team at Radio 1 to contribute to the biggest party of your life...twenty years in the making. This is going to be epic!"

As well as the events, a number of Radio 1 shows will broadcast live from a secret location on the Spanish island to mark the special anniversary including Annie Mac's Thursday evening Radio 1 show (7-9pm UK time), The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw will come live (06.30-10.00am) from the island on the Friday, and again on Monday morning as the weekend draws to a close, and on Saturday evening, MistaJam will also head to the White Isle for a special one-off broadcast, showcasing some huge Ibiza anthems.

Nick Grimshaw said: "Radio 1 being live in Ibiza has been one of my favourite things to listen to as a fan of Radio 1 for years and years, since I was a teenager on my first lads holiday there. I can't wait to get out there and celebrate 20 years of the iconic Radio 1 parties. This could well be the best weekend of our lives."

Alongside these events and shows, listeners will also be able to enjoy Enter live from Space on Thursday 30 July featuring Radio 1's very own Heidi, as well as Hot Since 82 from Space, and 20 years of Ibiza Classic Essential Mixes on Friday 31 July.

Audiences at home will be able to enjoy Radio 1 Ibiza 20 live on Radio 1, via mobile and the BBC iPlayer Radio app. The event's will also be live streamed in vision on Radio 1's website, via BBC Red Button and video highlights will be available via Radio 1's YouTube and BBC iPlayer channel.

Radio 1's first broadcast from Ibiza was in July 1995 - an Essential Mix by Nicky Holloway at Manumission at Ku (now Privilege). This was followed by a Pete Tong Essential Mix on 13 August and a Paul Oakenfold Essential Mix on 17 September.
