The Reeperbahn Festival, Europe's biggest club festival and most important marketplace for the music industry, is setting a new standard for the international music scene: ANCHOR 2016 – Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award.

Eight artists from across the world will come to compete before the prestigious jury which includes legendary music producer, Tony Visconti, with the lucky winner being awarded the ANCHOR at the end of the festival.

The acts that have been nominated for the ANCHOR this year come from countries including the USA, UK, Sweden and Australia. All eight nominees are promising talents in their home countries. The competition for the ANCHOR 2016 is a “great challenge, but more importantly, a great opportunity,” says Alex Schulz, founder and director of the Reeperbahn Festival. He is confident that his latest project will quickly become established and will be for music “what the Palme d'Or in Cannes is for film. An award that is known and respected by the public, industry and artists alike”. The ANCHOR will become an international quality label, a guide for fans and the music industry in search of the best new music from around the world and a jump start for the competitors' international careers.

Tony Visconti also believes that the future of the ANCHOR award is bright. Visconti, who produced many of David Bowie's albums, will be on the jury and on the lookout for the best new act in music. Together with the other jury members, he will elect the ANCHOR 2016 winner and present the award at a glamorous award ceremony on September 24 at the end of the Reeperbahn Festival.

The jury around Visconti will also be in the audience, watching the eight nominees perform in Club Molotow and at the Imperial Theatre for the three days before the award ceremony. It's clear what the legendary producer is looking for: “Originality. Of course I am looking for extreme talent as well. There has never been more competition in the music world. The key to success is not in the technology, that is only a tool. The key to success is practicing long and hard. Take risks. Be adventurous. Take nothing for granted. Believe in yourself.“  Who will win the ANCHOR 2016, and how high their ascent to stardom will be, is yet to be seen, but one thing we know for certain: Tony Visconti will definitely find the passion that he is looking for in this competition around the very first ANCHOR 2016 - Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award.

The Reeperbahn Festival has a lot to offer: it is a musical showcase and a networking platform. Above all, it is a great opportunity to discover live performances from new artists from all around the world. Acts like Bon Iver, Jake Bugg, Ed Sheeran, Janelle Monáe and BOY all performed one of their first internationally significant performances here.
