WE SAY
Brooklyn-based musician Sheare is an artist whose lyrics will doubtless resonate with listeners of a similar age to his. The 20-something New Yorker came to the attention of Benny Benassi earlier this year, which led to Sheare providing the vocals on his fantastic club banger I Keep Running from his album Danceaholic. Meanwhile, his own work often draws from great British synth pop influences old like Depeche Mode, Hurts and all points in between. This track tells of the common fear of uncertainty for many and the need for something solid to cling onto, whether in a relationship, working life or the world around you. The restlessness expressed on the chorus in something his growing audience will totally identify with. Premiered yesterday (September 6) via Pop Crush, it’s a song that builds neatly from its engagingly introspective start into a shimmering chorus that’ll make you want to put your arm around it and offer a reassuring hug. Written, produced and recorded in his Brooklyn bedroom, we’ll continue to keep a keen ear out for what's in store from him next. But for now, this is splendid.
