MJ Cole featuring Bruno Major
Shelter

892 Recordings

WE SAY

In the scorching London heatwave that we experienced last weekend, this latest release from MJ Cole wafted out of our speakers and it sounded just so perfect. MJ’s been one of the UK’s great dance music pioneers over the years and there remains global interest in his output. This superb song was added to a dozen New Music Friday playlists around the world last week including Sweden, Germany and here at home. Mistajam and DJ Target at BBC Radio 1Xtra have supported the track and there was a recent feature in Notion magazine about this intriguing collaboration with vocalist and co-writer Bruno Major. A beautiful jazz-tinged feel, with pitched-down vocals helps create a sense of mystery and other-worldliness, and it’s all set to a two-step beat, giving it a neat nod to Cole’s past whilst simultaneously pushing onwards into a new phase of his work. With the Bank Holiday weekend upon us soon, MJ’s performing a Carnival warm-up set on August 25 at Fabric. But this weekend, in that warm summer sunshine again, Shelter is undoubtedly what you'll all be craving.
