WE SAY
To ease you into your lockdown Monday morning, we have this cool, deep indie-electronic number from American singer-songwriter Julia Kahn for you. The Indianapolis native grew up singing from a young age and over time has developed an old gypsy vibe to her essence with a love of lo-fi electronic and soulful indie-pop. Light On sees her team up with multi-platinum producer Bryan Todd for a deliciously haunting and slow affair with echoes of Massive Attack Protection era, Lana Del Rey and even a dashing of Janis Joplin too. Intricate beats flitter through soft, swirling and minimal production, evoking mystery as Julia’s haunting vocals drive this laid-back affair. It’s only her second release but she is already showing a knack of expressing heartfelt feeling in bewitching tones, and with an album already in the works, she is an artist to keep an eye on.
