Let’s introduce you to 22 year old Norwegian singer-songwriter iris and her rather special new single mercy. Growing up near Bergen and raised on the Beatles, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell, she is the latest exciting new musical export from the famed Norwegian city, which brought us Aurora, Sigrid and Kygo. Earlier this year she released her debut EP a sensitive being – a cinematic blend of alt-pop brimming with melancholy and vulnerability – that received praise from the likes of i-D, The Line of Best Fit, Clash, Spindle and Lock Magazine to name just a few. With its bass heavy instrumentation and defiant lyrics, mercy shows a different side to her music and was added to Norway’s Spotify New Music Friday playlist at the end of last month. Perfect for alt and new pop playlists, this immediate and confident single marks her as one to watch. Simply gorgeous.
