With a track premiered on Annie Mac’s Radio 1 show last night (June 2), meet Formation, identical twins from south London. Kicking in with an electro bassline which rapidly morphs into a driving rhythmic groove, the Ritson brothers offer a uniquely English take on the kind of thing that LCD Soundsystem gave us in the past but with a much more contemporary, gritty feel for what’s happening today. They’ve been busy with live appearances supporting Years & Years and Shura in Europe recently, along with well-received sets at The Great Escape last month and a slot on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Radio 1 Big Weekend event in Norwich. Huw Stephens, Annie Mac and Phil Taggart at the station have already given them strong support. It’ll be another year before their debut album materialises but expect a set of EPs between now and then as their profile deservedly builds. They perform at London’s Field Day in Victoria Park this Saturday afternoon (June 6). If the forecast is right, the weather could be a scorcher to accompany their uniquely quirky vibes.
