WE SAY
In decades to come, when people look back on 2016 and try to define the musical sound of these topsy-turvy historic times, we’re confident this from teen-queen Zara Larsson will come out on top. Our Record of the Year was first featured by us right back on January 15, the day it was serviced to UK media. We’d already watched most of the Nordics and parts of Europe fall for its undeniable charm, and so we described it as “pure cool Scandi pop with laser-precision hooks…you’ll be hard pressed to find a more-instantly infectious and likeable smash for the rest of 2016 ”. Eleven months on, it still sounds as life-affirming as it did on its very first play. At last week’s BBC Music Awards, she pretty much stole the show, as far as we’re concerned. She’s a proper pop star and we can’t wait to hear the imminent album that should be with us in a matter of weeks. The video is on 421m views (up from 32m when we first featured it) and it’s been streamed 513m times on Spotify. Congrats to everyone involved at Black Butter and the wider team beyond too. Lush Life remains near-perfect.
