WE SAY
Track of the Day today (July 7) on Radio 1 comes from unstoppable force-of-nature Shaggy. It feels like it’s been a while since we heard from the Jamaican-born pop superstar here in the UK but that’s all about to change as July beds in. The song and Spanish-filmed video have already chalked up almost 60 million combined plays on YouTube and the early support at radio from playlists at Kiss and 1Xtra along with Scott Mills spot plays have undoubtedly all helped the track hit the Shazam UK Top 50, where it's growing fast. Meanwhile in the States, he’s still picking up Grammy nominations more than two decades after first breaking though, with the latest being recognised in 2015’s Best Reggae Album category. All his unmistakable trademark dancehall influences and carnival pop vibes are ever present here and you’ve got to admire his ability to still stay relevant to music buyers worldwide, young and old alike. He’ll be here charming us all as ever on a UK promo trip in the coming weeks. Shaggy’s back - now summer can properly start.
