Matty
I'll Gladly Place Myself Below You

Matty Unlimited

WE SAY

Matty aka Matthew Tavares, best known as one of Toronto quartet BADBADNOTGOOD, drops his debut solo album, Déjàvu, tomorrow and this gorgeous slice of dreamy pop is the perfect introduction to his music. Whilst still a core member of the group, he took some time out of touring to concentrate on creating his own album and exploring fresh music avenues. Co-produced by himself and Frank Dukes (Drake, The Weeknd, Frank Ocean), the album takes its cues from the psychedelic pop of the Beach Boys to the jazz fusion of Soft Machine and synth-pop textures of Toro y Moi. All of which are apparent in I’ll Gladly Place Myself Below You, a track with a gloriously washed out and captivating mellow vibe that is perfect for those summer chilled out playlists. Stereogum, Pigeons & Planes, The Fader and Clash are among his online admirers plus strong support at radio with spins from Amazing Radio, Jamz Supernova at 1Xtra, Lauren Laverne and Gilles Peterson at 6Music, and Phil Taggart and Benji B at Radio 1. Next month, Matty will be touring Europe including performing his first solo show in London at St Pancras Old Church on 26 July. I’ll Gladly Place Myself Below You is simply beautiful, a masterpiece in genre-bending skill and tranquil melodies.
