WE SAY

Blurring the lines between singer-songwriter sensibilities and full-band indie sound is Middlesbrough-born, Newcastle-based artist Joe Ramsey. Having received funding from Help Musicians’ Do It Differently Fund, Joe released his debut EP, Making Notes, last month. Working with producers James Kenosha (Birdy, Rhodes, Mosa Wild) and Nicholas Alexander, Joe has produced an EP of tracks, written over lockdown, that are full of promise, positivity and raw, joyful emotion. Amidst the honest songwriting and sing-along choruses, there are echoes of Oasis, Jake Bugg and Sam Fender, all wrapped up in Joe’s sense of the indie rock sound. He has already impressed tastemakers at Clash, Earmilk, Atwood Magazine, 1883 Magazine, BBC Introducing North East and Amazing Radio, but we reckon it won’t be long before more follow. For us, it is the lead track, Another Day, where it all comes together in a rollicking, joyful fashion and deserves your attention. On Wednesday, he will be supporting Walt Disco at The Cluny in Newcastle and will be playing Stockton Calling Festival on 16 April. One to watch.
