WE SAY
Godwits are a five piece indie-folk band from Newbury who we were very impressed with for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the marvellous melody and structure conjured by Jordan, their bass player, which works brilliantly when teamed with the lyrics of their vocalist Peter - which was the other reason we like them. Fires showcases the strengths of that partnership. There's a striking and mature songwriting force at work here (read lyrics on their MySpace). It's an interesting sound, carried off with aplomb. Charlotte Hatherley and Josh Pyke support slots have brought them to this point, and we hope to hear more from them. JF London gig: 16 August, Hoxton Bar and Kitchen N1.
