Emily Capell is a 23 year-old singer-songwriter from north west London who grew up on an eclectic diet of The Clash, The Smiths, Johnny Cash and Top 40 pop. Her manager first heard her songs being played by Robert Elms at BBC Radio London when she performed a live session on his show last year. Gary Crowley was an early supporter, Steve Lamacq at 6 Music has recently played this track and love for her is growing. Like many musicians of her age, there’s a teenage fondness for Jamie T evident in her work. Being an enormous Clash fan meant that a recent thumbs up from The Joe Strummer Foundation is one of the best endorsements she could possibly have to date. She’s played residencies at both the Proud Gallery and the Dublin Castle in Camden, where she returns for the first date in a month-long residency this Monday night (March 14) with other forthcoming gigs at The Finsbury on March 27 and on April 5 at The Social in W1 as part of BMI’s The Fix. Currently unsigned and looking for publishers too, this girl has a bright future ahead with perky, quirky tracks like this up her sleeve.
