WE SAY
Bold, punchy and guaranteed to grab your attention within the first 20 seconds, this superb track from Scots rockers brownbear is a spunky little guitar-driven gem. With a great and distinctive lead vocal from singer Matt Hickman, along with a killer riff cutting a swathe through the entire track, we're reminded here of the energy and urgency of a band like The Hives when they broke through a decade or so ago. The group were the main support for The Libertines at Glasgow's legendary Barrowlands last weekend and this Friday (July 5), the lads land in London to play on the British Summer Time festival bill at Hyde Park, second headlining on the Village Hall stage that evening. Then it's back north of the border for the final T In The Park at the Balado site on the BBC Introducing stage on July 12. The single-take video is worth a look too, directed by Michael Hines, famed for his work on two of Scotland's biggest comedy shows of the past decade, Still Game and Chewin' The Fat. Playlisted at Xfm and with a debut album in the works, this is smart, sharp and everything a great pop song should be.
